Is there a super-simple way to send these commands from the DOS prompt or from a DOS batch file or a vbscript? I've tried COPY and ECHO... those just create a file on the hard disk called COM155 when I try it. Uncle google isn't helping me here. I do searches, and the results always talk about using PUTTY and typing things live. I want to automate this. Or, the search results say to use COPY or ECHO, and of course, I tried that and it just makes a hard disk file named COM155 You have to set the attributes that meets your system specification. After that you can use the com port as follows: 1) Create a data file, that contains what you want to send, and. 2) then copy the file content to the com device of your choice. So the resulting batch file should be similar to this: Code: Select all Extract the archive the same way in the second computer. Take the serial cable and connect one of its ends to the com1 port of one computer and connect the other end to the com1 port of the second. You can simplify your code quite a bit: Hide Copy Code. byte [] writeBuffer = File.ReadAllBytes (filename.txt); port.Write (writeBuffer, 0, writeBuffer.Length); http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.io.file.readallbytes.aspx [ ^] But it won't make any difference to data coming out of the serial port

2) As stated above use a dig port to move that serial port near the target device. Install the virtual com port adapter software in your vmclient. With the above you should be able to add this client to your vSphere infrastructure for backup and redundancy. I had no idea dongles could be virtualized. If that is legit, then this could be a great DR move for us not just for this but for other Engineering applications Copy (@ c: \ file.txt, com1); But I can not test it properly because I do not have anything that I can plug into my COM1 port 8-) It seems to work, in it Blocks instead of throwing an exception. Get lin If there is an explicit trigger for this batch file then what you might want to do is to have two batch files involved: One batch file just containing the echo 1l. > COM6: command and is triggered, and another that is always executing that does the copy command (or an equivalent, more on that in a moment) whose idleness while waiting for something to copy doesn't hurt anything (other.

The messenger service must be running to receive messages. You can send a message only to a name that is active on the network. Hex files start with a special character, usually ':' then have line length indicator, record type, loading address, the data itself and a checksum. All as sent as ASCII text, you have to interpret it, convert the data into binary and load it at the address in the address field Is there a way to read a line of data from the serial port from DOS/NT COMMAND. The only method I've found mentioned in my web searches is the TYPE command. But I've not been able to make it work. If I enter type com1, it seems to begin reading the port, but no matter what control characters I send along with the data, nothing prints to the screen until the buffer is completely full, (I'm guessing...in any case, I have to send a bunch of data before it prints to the screen. IMO, there are only 10 com ports (ranging from com0 to com9) to which data can actually be redirected in windows OSes. I don't think you can redirect data to com12 because windows thinks that you are redirecting to a file named com12 and not device 'com12'. You should either connect your printer to a com port between com0 to com9 or you should try some different approach. But then, I may be wrong too as I am not sure

Maybe. But may I ask does it need to be limited to just a batch file that could be used on any omputer? It is quite easy to do that in a compiled or interpreted language. Such as VBS or QBASIC. Also, when you say 1, do you really mean a break or mark or space. Or do you want an ASCII one to be written once to the serial output. What baud rate A very simple crude method to write to the file, would use the simple echo command. echo -ne '\033[2J' > /dev/ttyS1 and to read. cat -v < /dev/ttyS1 You can have cat running in one terminal, and echo in a 2nd. If everything is gibberish, then baud rate, bit settings might need setting before you start sending. stty will do that. !! NOTE stty will use stdin as default file descriptor to affect
